Honors

English 1 (9th Grade) students have the option to take an Honors version of their English course.

Honors English is a more rigorous version of the standard English class but takes place in the same class. The students are provided with more challenging supplemental texts. Assignments and papers may have additional length/content expectations. In addition, Honors students are sometimes (not always) partnered with other Honors students during group work and on projects. In general, Honors students are held to a higher standard and have a more rigorous experience.

Students must also read 1 additional Independent Reading book before the end of the year (5 instead of 4).

Once the course is successfully completed with a grade of B or higher, an Honors English student receives a mark of Honors on their transcript. In addition, the Honors designation is counted differently in regard to GPA. Course content questions can be directed to me, but please contact your child’s guidance counselor for more information about GPA, etc.

Students interested in participating in Honors English, along with their parents and the teacher, must sign an Honors Contract.

English 1: Honors Contract

Once a student has signed an Honors Contract they are bound to the contract for the remainder of the school year.

Honors Contracts for the 2017-2018 school year must be signed and handed in by Friday, September 29, 2017.
